The Derby Youth Theatre Workshop was founded in 1985
by Andy Price. Its purpose was to encourage talented students from
schools throughout Derby to become part of a youth theatre project
with professional production values.
Over the past 25 years the workshop has presented a wide range of
outstanding productions. Amongst these were 'The Lion, The Witch and
The Wardrobe', 'Adrian Mole', 'Candide', 'Alice', 'Dragon, ''Escape
From The Underworld', 'The Show', 'Erik the Viking', 'Grimm Tales',
'The Beggars' Chalk Circle', 'Dance With The Devil', 'The Villains'
Opera' , 'Trouble', 'A Christmas Carol', 'Legend', 'Time
Bandits', ‘Curtains’ and most recently, the enormously successful
‘Jack and the Beanstalk’
Based at Noel-Baker Community
School and Language College in Derby,
since it first began, the Workshop has welcomed some of the most
vibrant, enthusiastic, committed and talented young performers
the city has to offer.
Auditions are held each year in early January to
encourage new members to join the Workshop.
Many long standing members have gone on to study
Drama and Theatre Arts at University.. and moved on to develop
careers in the industry.
The Workshop remains a totally unique opportunity
for students from 13-21 in Derbyshire to become involved in... and
make a real contribution to, the exciting, innovative and original
production work of this most creative Workshop Theatre project.
Derby Youth Theatre Workshop
:New Season: 2010:
After the ridiculously phenomenal success of ‘Jack and
the Beanstalk’ we have already
started
planning our second venture into the world of Panto ... with what
promises to be an even more spectacular staging of almost everyone’s
favourite Pantomime ‘Aladdin’.
Casting has
already begun and the first rough drafts of the script have had the
creative
team ..
giggling like idiots!!
So look out for news of our production of ‘Aladdin’ in December
2010.

Meanwhile.. we
are beginning work on our next Workshop production
‘OuR HouSe’
... scheduled for presentation in early May.
‘OuR HouSe’ will
be an evening of devised and scripted pieces
based around the theme of the
painfully mundane and hilarious everyday
events in the houses of a typical
suburban street... Eastenders..meets
Coronation Street.. with a little
bit of the Exorcist and the X Factor thrown
in for good measure...

“All the World’s a Street... and we all have our exits
...
And our
entrances...
...And Oi!...where they Hell have you Been??!!”
