This year we could not possibly be more excited about presenting our second Panto Aladdin. Putting this together has been truly collaborative and such enormous fun!
The Derby Youth Theatre Workshop has achieved a long standing reputation for innovation and theatrical risk taking. Aladdin has offered us a fantastic opportunity to not only make theatrical sense of the original story but also to wrap it up in the mystical and much respected trappings of traditional Panto.
All the Workshop trademark features abound... spectacular high energy performances, creative settings, terrific music, seriously sumptuous costumes, atmospheric lighting and real attention to detail.
Aladdin really does promise to be a most excellent evening’s entertainment. As in all good Pantomimes it has something for everyone... guaranteed to enthral and captivate the youngsters and send the grown- ups away with dirty great smirks.
In true Panto stylings, Aladdin is packed full of visual gags, witty dialogue, enormous costumes, clever sets, dazzling lights, traditional characters as well as bucket loads of double’ entendre’. It’s bound to appeal to young boys and girls as well as old and wrinkly boys and girls.
All of the favourite characters are there… hapless Aladdin and the beautiful Princess, her overbearing Father Emperor Ali Khazi-Zimmerframe, her rather dumb handmaiden LilyWong and not forgetting the fabulous Widow Twankey, Wishee Washee, the Evil Abanazer (Boooh!) and the rather fashion conscious Genie of the Lamp! New characters have been introduced also to make this original production of Aladdin a fresh, superbly crafted laugh a minute re-working of the traditional tale.
